Charles Krug's "TASTiNGS on the Lawn"
Evokes Gentler Era
55th Year for The Peter Mondavi
Family's Summertime Tradition
St.
Helena, CA, July 28 - For the 55th
consecutive summer, Charles Krug Winery presents
"Tastings on the Lawn" on August 12,
2006, featuring a varied lineup of super-premium
wines, including reserves and limited releases,
with food and live music, on the sprawling grounds
of Napa Valley's oldest continuously operated
winery.
To complement the Charles Krug wines, an assortment
of seasonal appetizers will be served at several
stations. Mondavi family members will be in attendance
to greet guests and sign bottles, which will be
available at a 20 percent discount for the day.
The event also features a caricaturist and live
music from the Paul Hlebcar Trio (www.paulguitar.com).
Across the oak-shaded lawn, Charles Krug's Napa
Valley Zinfandel Port wine will be paired with
chocolate in the historic 1881 Carriage House,
now a federal landmark.
The Charles Krug Winery, planted in 1861 by Prussian
immigrant Charles Krug and purchased by Cesare
and Rosa Mondavi in 1943, originated the Napa
Valley lawn tasting in 1951 as a means to educate
consumers about wine. "You could read all
the articles you want, but if you didn't taste
it, it didn't mean a thing," says Peter Mondavi,
Cesare and Rosa's son and the family patriarch,
about the impetus to start the lawn tastings.
Festivities will take place at the winery
located at 2800 Main Street, St. Helena, CA 94574
and will last from 2pm to 5pm on Saturday August
12th. The second tasting of the summer will be
held on September 23rd. Tickets are $25
in advance and $30 at the door.
